Omega-3 Fish Oil Price Guide: Cost per 1,000 mg
Omega-3 Fish Oil Price Guide: Cost per 1,000 mg
Posted on October 21, 2026 by Supplement.deals
Fish oil bottles 1,000 mg and up run from 3.74 to 9.60 this week. The per 1,000 mg math across 19 verified listings, plus what the EPA and DHA line adds.
Fish oil is the deepest single-ingredient pool we track: this week's pull carried 2,129 live omega-3 and fish-oil listings with prices, and 672 of them are in counted softgel or capsule formats. Within the counted bottles, the 1,000 mg strength is the deepest bucket at 84 listings, with 1,200 mg close behind at 53. That depth is exactly why the aisle needs a ruler. The ten counted 1,000 mg bottles in the first table below span about $3.74 to $9.60 on the sticker, and even inside that one strength the cost per softgel nearly doubles from top to bottom.
This guide applies the per-unit method from our earlier price guides to the omega-3 aisle. Every price comes from a live listing verified on October 16, 2026, and every row uses the count and the per-softgel amount printed on the label itself. One caution before the tables: softgel labels can print two different numbers — the total fish-oil weight and the EPA and DHA pair — and this guide keeps those two rulers separate until the right section.
The method, in one number
Normalize every bottle to a single number: the cost of 1,000 mg of the labeled oil.
Cost per 1,000 mg = price ÷ (count × mg per softgel) × 1,000
The 120-count fish oil at $7.41 works out to $0.062 per softgel, and because each softgel carries 1,000 mg, that is also the cost per 1,000 mg. The equality breaks for every other strength in this guide — a 1,200 mg softgel costs more per piece, which is why the per-1,000-mg column, not the sticker, does the comparing.

The 1,000 mg shelf
Ten counted 1,000 mg bottles from this week's pull, sorted by the only column that compares across the shelf:
Read the last column. The lowest sticker in the table — $3.74 for 30 softgels — is also the most expensive way to buy 1,000 mg in it, at $0.125, just over twice the rate of the 120-count at the top. The pattern holds down the column: the three cheapest rates sit on bottles of 90, 100, and 120 softgels, and the three costliest sit on the 30- and 60-count bottles. The same read applies inside the $6-and-$7 band, where $6.49 buys 72 softgels ($0.090 per 1,000 mg) and $7.20 buys 60 ($0.120) — a third higher per unit of oil for a bottle that costs more.
One label quirk to catch: the Rule One bottle prints its strength as 1 g instead of 1,000 mg. The amount is identical, and at $8.44 for 100 softgels it lands at $0.084 per 1,000 mg, mid-band for its count. When a label switches units to grams, the conversion is the only extra step the method needs: 1 g equals 1,000 mg.
One more data point from the floor of the aisle: the lowest sticker among the listings verified for this guide is a $3.66 NOW Foods molecularly distilled bottle that does not print a count, so it stays out of the tables above. The price is real, it is live, and its missing count is exactly the kind of gap this method exists to catch.

The 1,200 mg ladder and the trial-size trap
The next shelf up changes the strength — and changes which number to trust. Five counted bottles above 1,000 mg:
| Product | Format | Count × mg | Price | Per softgel | Per 1,000 mg | Annual cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Puritan's Pride, Omega 3 Fish Oil Trial Size, 1200 mg, 30 Softgels | Softgel | 30 × 1,200 mg | $3.75 | $0.125 | $0.104 | $38.02 |
| 21st Century, Fish Oil, 1200 mg, 90 Softgels | Softgel | 90 × 1,200 mg | $7.60 | $0.084 | $0.070 | $25.69 |
| Sundown Naturals, Sundown Naturals Extra Strength Fish Oil, 1200 mg, 100 Softgels | Softgel | 100 × 1,200 mg | $8.11 | $0.081 | $0.068 | $24.67 |
| Puritan's Pride, Extra Strength Omega-3 Fish Oil, 1500 mg, 60 Softgels | Softgel | 60 × 1,500 mg | $9.18 | $0.153 | $0.102 | $37.23 |
| Nature's Truth, Fish Oil Quick Release Softgels Natural Lemon, 2000 Mg, 60 Caps | Softgel | 60 × 2,000 mg | $7.64 | $0.127 | $0.064 | $23.24 |
Two bottles in this table teach the whole lesson. First, the trial size: the 30-count at $3.75 is the cheapest sticker in the ladder — $4.36 less than the 100-count — but per 1,000 mg it runs $0.104 against $0.068, about 54 percent more per unit of oil. The small bottle is not the cheap option; it is the cheap-looking one. Second, the 2,000 mg softgel: it costs $0.127 per piece, more than either 1,200 mg bottle, yet its $0.064 per 1,000 mg lands within two-tenths of a cent of the guide minimum. Strength moves the per-piece price mechanically; the ruler absorbs it.
The mid-ladder 1,500 mg bottle shows the same idea from the other side: a $9.18 sticker, the highest in the table, settles at $0.102 per 1,000 mg — worse than both 1,200 mg bottles above it. The sticker and the rate are two different shelves.

What the EPA and DHA line adds
So far every number has used the total oil weight. But the omega-3s themselves — EPA and DHA — are what the labels in this aisle print separately when they print them at all, and that pair is a different ruler entirely. Three bottles from this week's pull, priced both ways:
| Product | Count × mg (oil) | EPA + DHA per softgel | Price | Per 1,000 mg oil | EPA + DHA share of oil |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Now Foods Super Omega EPA 1200 Mg 360/240 120 Softgels | 120 × 1,200 mg | 600 mg (360 + 240) | $16.65 | $0.116 | 50 percent |
| NusaPure Antarctic Krill Oil 2000 mg, 120 Softgels | 120 × 2,000 mg | 600 mg (360 + 240) | $30.50 | $0.127 | 30 percent |
| Amazing Nutrition, Amazing Omega Krill Oil, 1000 mg, 120 Softgels | 120 × 1,000 mg | not printed | $18.80 | $0.157 | not printed |
Compare the first two rows on both rulers. Per 1,000 mg of oil they are near-twins: $0.116 against $0.127, about ten percent apart. Switch to the pair actually named on the front of the bottle and the gap multiplies: $0.231 per 1,000 mg of EPA and DHA against $0.424, about 1.8 times. The reason is concentration. The fish-oil concentrate prints 600 mg of EPA and DHA inside 1,200 mg of oil — 50 percent. The krill blend prints the same 600 mg inside 2,000 mg of oil — 30 percent. Same pair, different amount of oil wrapped around it, and the oil ruler can barely tell the two apart.
That is the label trap to know: 1,000 mg of fish oil and 1,000 mg of EPA and DHA are different quantities at different prices, and a bottle that prints only the first number cannot be compared on the second. The third row is the reminder — a krill label that carries no EPA and DHA split at all, which leaves the oil ruler as the only ranking available for it.

The premium shelf, measured
Every aisle has its premium end, and in omega-3 it is krill and the concentrated formulas. The math does not judge the premium; it prices it. The NusaPure krill blend at $30.50 works out to $0.127 per 1,000 mg of oil — about twice the guide minimum. The Amazing Nutrition krill, 1,000 mg at 120 softgels for $18.80, lands at $0.157 — about two and a half times the minimum. The concentrate in the table above sits at $0.116, about 1.9 times the minimum. Across every table in this guide, the oil ruler spans roughly 2.5 times end to end, from the 120-count fish oil at $0.062 to the 1,000 mg krill at $0.157.
The krill rows also carry the sharpest version of the pair-versus-oil story: the NusaPure label prints the same 600 mg EPA and DHA pair as the $16.65 fish-oil concentrate, inside a heavier 2,000 mg oil shell, for $13.85 more per bottle. Labels that print the pair let you run that comparison yourself; for the ones that do not, the premium has to be judged on sourcing and format alone, which is outside what a price guide can measure.

The annual view
A year of 1,000 mg per day — the normalization basis used across this series to price a habit — applied to six bottles:
| Product | Total mg per bottle | Bottles per year | Annual cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Now Foods, Omega-3 Fish Oil, 1000 Mg, 30 Softgels | 30,000 mg | 12.17 | $45.50 |
| Sundown Naturals, Sundown Naturals Fish Oil, 1000 mg, 72 Count | 72,000 mg | 5.07 | $32.90 |
| fitcode, Fish Oil, 120 Softgels (1,000 mg per Softgel) | 120,000 mg | 3.04 | $22.54 |
| Puritan's Pride, Omega 3 Fish Oil Trial Size, 1200 mg, 30 Softgels | 36,000 mg | 10.14 | $38.02 |
| Sundown Naturals, Sundown Naturals Extra Strength Fish Oil, 1200 mg, 100 Softgels | 120,000 mg | 3.04 | $24.67 |
| Nature's Truth, Fish Oil Quick Release Softgels Natural Lemon, 2000 Mg, 60 Caps | 120,000 mg | 3.04 | $23.24 |
The window is $22.54 to $45.50 — roughly double — and the order is close to inverted from the sticker. The two lowest stickers in the table, $3.74 and $3.75, log the two highest years, $45.50 and $38.02. Nearly double the sticker, less than half the year. The trial size follows the same script at an annual scale: cheap to try, and a $38.02 year to keep. At the premium end, the two krill rows from the last section close the year at $46.39 and $57.18 for the same daily oil weight — about double to two and a half times the cheapest year in the guide.
As in the earlier guides, this is a normalization, not a serving suggestion — it prices what each bottle delivers across a year, so the bottles themselves can be compared.

How to read any fish oil label in this aisle
- Find the count and the per-softgel oil amount. If the strength is printed in grams, convert first: 1 g equals 1,000 mg.
- Divide price by count for the per-softgel cost.
- Multiply the per-softgel cost by 1,000 ÷ mg per softgel to get the cost per 1,000 mg of oil, the number that compares across strengths.
- Look for the EPA and DHA line. If it is printed, run the same normalization on the pair — a second, stricter price. If it is missing, note that the bottle cannot be ranked on the pair at all.
- Project the year: annual cost = cost per 1,000 mg × 365. Compare years, not stickers, across bottles you would actually finish.

The short version
Omega-3 is a two-ruler aisle: the oil weight sets the shelf price, and the EPA and DHA pair sets the real one. In this week's pull, the counted bottles span $0.062 to $0.125 per 1,000 mg of oil at the 1,000 mg strength; the cheapest rates sit on the biggest counts; trial sizes are cheap to try and expensive to keep; and the premium shelf — concentrates and krill — runs about twice to two and a half times the commodity floor, before the pair line further separates the labels that print it from the ones that do not. Confirm the count, normalize to 1,000 mg, read the pair line, then compare years. Recheck the live table before you buy — prices in this aisle move with the market.
